Agarwood is not a species but a reaction. When Aquilaria wood is wounded it produces a dark, heavily perfumed resin, and only the resinous heartwood is sold as agarwood — the pale sapwood around it is worthless. It is graded on how much resin it holds, not on its age, and a bead that is dark all the way through is worth many times one that is dark only at the surface.

Beads cut with fine longitudinal grooves running the length of each one, so the surface catches light in narrow lines rather than a single highlight. It is a quiet, old-fashioned treatment, and it reads as texture from across a room rather than as sparkle.

Beads increase steadily in size from the clasp to the centre and back down the other side, so the strand has a definite middle and a definite weight. Grading a strand this way means sorting every bead by diameter first, and the beads at the centre of the arc are the ones that set the price.

Sizing: the strand is strung on a doubled elastic core with a knotted finish, and it is made in three lengths — a snug 16 cm, the standard 18 cm, and a loose 20 cm. Beads are graded by hand before stringing, so the strand you receive is matched for size and tone from the first bead to the last. Every bracelet is strung to order in small numbers; if you would like the exact strand photographed before it ships, ask and we will send you the picture.

We do not quote a delivery date. Once a parcel leaves us it is carried by an international courier and cleared by customs in your country, and a date we cannot control is a date we will not promise. The tracking number, which you get when the label is created, shows every scan to your door.

Shipping is complimentary on orders over CAD 79.00$; below that a flat CAD 9.50$ applies. HST (13%) is calculated at checkout. Duties and import taxes are the recipient's responsibility.

Unopened tins can be returned within 30 days for a full refund. If a tea is not to your taste, tell us — we would rather send you something you like than keep the money.
