Da Hong Pao
Big Red Robe · reserve lot
China’s most famous tea, made from the Qi Dan and Bei Dou cultivars that stand in for the legendary mother trees.
The original Da Hong Pao mother trees on the Wuyi cliffs produce a few hundred grams a year and are effectively unobtainable. What is obtainable — and what we buy — is tea from the Qi Dan and Bei Dou cultivars, direct descendants of those trees, grown a short walk away and roasted with the same five-round charcoal method.
The cup is extraordinary: caramelised plum, roasted chestnut, a floral top note that fades as the tea cools, and that rock-mineral throat feeling that never quite leaves. If you are buying one tea as a gift for someone who knows tea, it is this.

We dispatch within 48 hours of your order, from our warehouse in China, with tracking on every parcel.
We do not quote a delivery date. Once a parcel leaves us it is carried by an international courier and cleared by customs in your country, and a date we cannot control is a date we will not promise. The tracking number, which you get when the label is created, shows every scan to your door.
Shipping is complimentary on orders over CAD 79.00$; below that a flat CAD 9.50$ applies. HST (13%) is calculated at checkout. Duties and import taxes are the recipient's responsibility.
Unopened tins can be returned within 30 days for a full refund. If a tea is not to your taste, tell us — we would rather send you something you like than keep the money.
We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB, Diners Club and China UnionPay through our payment provider's local card gateway, protected by 3-D Secure 2 authentication. Your bank may ask you to confirm the payment in your banking app or with a one-time code.
Card details are entered on our checkout and transmitted directly to the payment provider over TLS. They are never written to our database — we only keep the card brand and the last four digits so you can recognise the charge on your statement. All prices are in CAD.
