Ebony is the near-black heartwood of the Diospyros genus, and the black is the whole of its value: the sapwood around it is pale and useless, so a tree yields very little. It is denser than water in some species, which is why an ebony bead feels like stone in the hand rather than like wood.

A true sphere, which is the hardest of the simple shapes to make properly: every bead has to be drilled through its centre or the strand will not hang straight, and a wall of spheres shows every mismatch in size. Grading a round strand is most of its cost.

A plain strand of one material with a single contrasting bead or charm set to one side of the clasp. The restraint is the design: the charm is the only interruption and it is meant to be the only one.

Sizing: the strand is strung on a doubled elastic core with a knotted finish, and it is made in three lengths — a snug 16 cm, the standard 18 cm, and a loose 20 cm. Beads are graded by hand before stringing, so the strand you receive is matched for size and tone from the first bead to the last. Every bracelet is strung to order in small numbers; if you would like the exact strand photographed before it ships, ask and we will send you the picture.

Care: Keep it out of water, which raises the grain, and out of dry heat, which cracks it. A little oil once a year is plenty.

We do not quote a delivery date. Once a parcel leaves us it is carried by an international courier and cleared by customs in your country, and a date we cannot control is a date we will not promise. The tracking number, which you get when the label is created, shows every scan to your door.

Shipping is complimentary on orders over CAD 79.00$; below that a flat CAD 9.50$ applies. HST (13%) is calculated at checkout. Duties and import taxes are the recipient's responsibility.

Unopened tins can be returned within 30 days for a full refund. If a tea is not to your taste, tell us — we would rather send you something you like than keep the money.
