Tai Ju — Reserve Grade
Hangzhou Tai Ju · hand-picked at full bloom
Whole Hangzhou chrysanthemums, shade-dried at full bloom: honeyed, faintly cooling, and what the city drinks in winter.
Tai Ju is the fat, pale chrysanthemum grown around Hangzhou and picked at full bloom in November. The flowers are shade-dried whole rather than baked, which keeps the essential oil in the petal and gives a cup that is honeyed and faintly cooling. Brewed with a little rock sugar it is what the city drinks all winter.
Chrysanthemum Tai Ju itself comes from Hangzhou, Zhejiang, grown as tai ju chrysanthemum, whole flower heads, at 50 m. This lot is that same tea, handled and graded as described above — the leaf, the mountain and the maker do not change, only the picking window and the price.
